CONFIGURING THE WORKBENCH USER INACTIVITY LOGOUT PROPERTIES

You must have observed while using the Endeca workbench that the workbench @ http://localhost:8006 automatically logs you out of the environment with a message hinting about the expiration of session due to inactivity for a period of time.

So, basically there is a default value set that comes out-of-the-box with the installation and administrators might want to control this based on business requirements or security requirements.

As an administrator if you want to alter this default value you need to open the “webstudio.properties” file located in your e.g. C:\Endeca\ToolsAndFrameworks\3.1.2\server\workspace folder.

You should be able to find the below entries in the webstudio.properties file that dictates the amount of timeout in seconds. There are 2 important properties that you need to know about

  1. com.endeca.webstudio.timeout.warning
  2. com.endeca.webstudio.timeout.logout

# Timeout values which dictate the amount of time, in seconds, to:
# The warning for impending auto-logout
# Warning after 55 minutes
com.endeca.webstudio.timeout.warning=3300
# The time where a user will be automatically logged out due to inactivity
# Timeout after 60 minutes
com.endeca.webstudio.timeout.logout=3600

STEPS INVOLVED

  1. Stop the Endeca Tools Service
  2. Locate the webstudio.properties file
  3. Open the file in text editor
  4. Configure either the warning or the logout property value
  5. Save and close the file
  6. Start the Endeca Tools Service
